LOS ANGELES, July 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. and Mexican authorities on Saturday continued their search for suspects along the U.S.-Mexico border after a U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed by assailants.

    Investigators said evidence shows that the shooting confrontation at the border fence near San Diego, California, may have left at least one of the attackers seriously injured.

    Authorities were checking hospitals and other medical facilities on both sides of the border for anyone suspicious of seeking treatment, according to the FBI office in San Diego.

    FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth said Friday night that investigators were following up on "a number of leads" in the United States and Mexico, but denied reports of any arrests related to the killing.

    U.S. Border Patrol agent Robert Rosas was shot and killed Thursday night while tracking a group of people presumed to have crossed into the country illegally. Investigators said they didn't know how many people shot at Rosas, or whether the agent was able to return fire.Continue reading
