What virtues are the most essential for a warrior to live by in order to prepare for, protect against and prevent violence?

There is no way to separate out leadership traits or virtues of a warrior. If you prioritize one over the others, then you become a weaker leader. You have got to look at all and how they come together that make you into the kind of leader your people will want to follow and are willing to follow. Its about how you put them together being your authentic self.

I just finished a video podcast on the topic of virtues by the author of Anatomy of a Warrior where I was asked a series of questions as part of The Warrior Virtue Project.
The project’s primary goal is to capture powerful true stories of virtue, valor and heroism from professional warriors and private citizens for the purpose of preserving and passing down these stories to future generations. The way we will capture these stories is via a simple video interview; raw and unedited. By this process, Alex Lanshe envisions creating the greatest library of personal stories of virtue, valor and heroism ever assembled as a legacy to pass on to his children and posterity.

Questions the interview covered:

  1. 1. In your experience, what 3 virtues are the most essential to being a good warrior?
  2. Please tell me a story of when you (or someone you know) used ___ (Virtue) under pressure.
  3. What is your most important discovery as a warrior? In other words: what did it take you your whole career to learn that you wish you could have known at the beginning?
  4. In your experience, what is the most important virtue to being a good warrior leader?
  5. Please tell me a story of when you (or someone you know) demonstrated this virtue of leadership under pressure.
  6. If you could only pass down one piece of life advice to a young person, what would you tell them?
  7. Who do you know that I should interview for The Warrior Virtue Project?

"It is my belief that the virtuous warrior is the most able to successfully protect and preserve human life. Even someone who lacks the skills and knowledge of how to fight can still protect and be a warrior. Why? Because there is more to protection than just the physical fighting. What causes fights? What leads to conflict in the first place? A lack of virtue. Cowardly, selfish, immoral, and prideful human beings are far more likely to violate someone else’s rights and to inflict violence and evil upon other human beings compared to those who are courageous, selfless, just, and humble. Don’t you agree?"~AlexLanshe
