Woman Killed in Crash With N.Y. Cruiser

ALBANY, N.Y. ­-- A two-year member of the Albany Police Department was driving a police cruiser that collided with another car at a fatal crash early Saturday, police said Sunday.

Christopher Orth, who is the husband of Heather Orth, a spokeswoman for Albany County District Attorney David Soares, was heading east on Madison Avenue with lights and sirens operating in response to a panic alarm at Capital District Psychiatric Center around midnight, according to police.

According to witnesses, Orth's car was the second police vehicle to travel through the Quail Street intersection when it hit a car driven by 22-year-old Melissa Escobar of Albany broadside.
